Reality Fracture: set guide, mechanics and best cards
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Reality Fracture (set code FRA) came out on October 2, 2026. Its story is Jace Beleren's Echoverse, a perfected, mirrored copy of the Multiverse, and nearly every part of the set plays on that idea: familiar legends show up twice, once as you know them and once as their Echoverse reflection.
The mechanics
- Empower Jace. The set's signature mechanic, on 35 cards. Empower Jace 2 puts two loyalty counters on a Jace token you control, and if you don't have one, it first makes a blue Jace planeswalker token with "[−1]: Surveil 1" and "[−3]: Draw a card." Every empower card grows the same Jace, so the token turns into a steady stream of card selection and cards.
- Echoed pairs. Pairs of cards, one from the Multiverse and one from the Echoverse: 66 uncommon, 14 rare and 6 mythic pairs. You'll find two Samuts, for example — Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun in blue and Samut, Hazoret's Champion in red — and two Thalias, Thalia, the Survivor and Geist of Saint Thalia.
- Surveil is everywhere (43 cards), and the Jace token's −1 is a surveil too.
- Behold a Jace shows up as an extra cost: choose a Jace you control or reveal one from your hand, as on Countersculpt.
- Prepare, flashback and threshold appear on a handful of cards.
Cards worth a look for Commander
- Emrakul, the Exigent Doom — Ten mana, but casting it untaps all your lands, and it has flying, trample and ward (sacrifice three permanents). Early on you can exile it from your hand for 3 to turn a land into a two-colourless-mana land until you cast it, so it is ramp first and a finisher later.
- Flickering Hound — Every creature spell you cast blinks another creature you control. A strong engine in any enters-the-battlefield deck.
- Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun — Two mana, and your instants and sorceries have split second. Nobody can respond to your removal, your tutors or your combo pieces.
- Samut, Hazoret's Champion — Two mana for haste on everything you control.
- Return to the Light Realms — Returns every nonland permanent card in your graveyard to the battlefield. A late-game reset button for graveyard decks.
- Denzilore Fatehold — A flash flier that puts a +1/+1 counter on each of your creatures whenever you scry or surveil.
- Verdant Kraken — Makes a 3/3 Forest land creature at the beginning of every player's upkeep, not just yours.
- Simulacrum Shaper — Three mana: fetch a basic land, and draw a card when it dies.
- Karn, Argent Defender — Artifacts and creatures entering don't trigger abilities. A cheap way to shut down token and blink decks.
- Enlightened Confidant — Lifelink, and on any turn you gained life it surveils and can hand you back the card it surveiled.
The set also reprints two slow lands, Deserted Beach and Haunted Ridge, which enter tapped only on your first two turns.
The Commander decks
Reality Fracture Commander (FRC) is the four-colour Multiverse Reforged deck, with Jace, Multiverse Architect — a planeswalker that can be your commander — and Nissa, Leyline Tamer, which draws a card on landfall and digs a creature onto the battlefield the first time each turn. Both are white, blue, black and red. Five mono-colour Foundations Commander decks were released alongside it: Calling All Angels, Keen Engineering, Wretched Ranks, Reign of Dragons and Tramplesaurus Rex.
Special treatments and the serialized card
Most of the alternate versions in the set are new frames: shattered mirror cards (and a facet foil version found only in Collector Boosters), borderless echoed pairs, the braintwister series, sculptor's stronghold cards, portal view lands, and borderless tower basic lands whose art forms three-card vertical panoramas. A 10-card Special Guests panorama by Marina Banker includes reprints like Austere Command, Mind Twist and Splinter Twin.
The rarest card is a serialized, double rainbow foil Bloodline Recollector with art by Mark Poole: 500 numbered copies, found in fewer than 1% of Collector Boosters.
Where to start
For a deck, buy the singles: every card above is a single card you can add to a cart, without opening packs to find it. For the treatments and the serialized chase, Collector Boosters are the only source — we stock the Reality Fracture Collector Booster pack and box.
